Dr. Alana Welch began karate at the age of six and more than 30 years later she still loves that feeling of entering the dojo or stepping in to the ring. As a Provincial team member for over 10 years and National team member for five, Alana can appreciate the excitement and experience that comes with traveling and being a representative within the sport you love.
When Alana earned her doctorate of chiropractic, she immediately approached the Ontario PSO and began a volunteer program aimed at assisting provincial team members. This did extend in to assisting National level athletes as well and traveling internationally as the team doctor. The barriers that Alana broke through and the education she provided have resulted in increased awareness and treatment programs for athletes at these different levels.
Alana also assumed the role of Ontario team Manager for several years. Her knowledge of the system and events were invaluable in being able to organize the team’s travel and accommodations, amongst other details, in an efficient and well-received manner.
In all of the roles that Alana has played within the karate system, she has been well liked and respected. She approaches her work with passion and enthusiasm, expecting integrity from others and fighting for inclusion and fairness for all. These strengths, combined with her organizational skills and attention for detail have made her a true asset at this stage of the OKF development.
